Markets in Malta are great, though a word of warning they start early and it get’s hot so be prepared to wake up early and makes sure you drink water and you will be fine, below is some insight to the markets in Malta and Gozo.
Opening times – they start at about 7.00 am and finish at around 12.30 pm.
Birgu Flea Market
Tuesday and Sundays
Located in the heart of the Three Cities, the Birgu street market takes place on each Tuesday morning.
Plenty of stalls lining the streets, where you can enjoy incredible bargains such as basic clothing items, food, beauty products, and footwear. Visit early (9ish), because it tends to be over by around 11am.
There’s also a flea market on Sunday morning in the Football Ground in Birgu, it’s not difficult to find, slightly to the left of the road which leads to the main square.
The beauty of this one is that you’ll find plenty of vintage stuff so the collector’s are bound to find a few treasures, if you know where to look.
Il-Monti Valletta
This Sunday market is the most popular market on the Maltese Islands. It’s located outside Valletta’s city gate. This is a very busy market and apart from items which you usually see in markets, you can also see many varied collections of bric-a-brac here.
Also in Valletta, there is a market which is held daily in Merchants Street with items such as clothes, affordable Malta souvenirs etc.

One of the Three Cities, hosts a popular market on a Tuesday and a chance to meet and greet the locals. Not your usual tourist market.
Marsaxlokk Fish Market
Everyday and Sundays
The charming fishing village of Marsaxlokk, hosts a fish market every Sunday with a myriad of fish on display – go early for the fresh catch.
Over the years this market has evolved and, apart from treh excellent fish and fresh produce, about anything is also on sale.
